Robbie Rogers has revealed that he and boyfriend of three years Greg Berlanti are engaged

The LA Galaxy footballer and former Attitude cover star announced the news on New Year’s Day. He broke the news with a selfie of the couple on Instagram, along with the caption: “Thank you to everyone before us that made this moment possible… I feel extremely lucky and blessed to end 2016 engaged to the love of my life. ❤ Happy New Year!”

29-year-old Robbie met his now fiancé, Arrow and The Flash producer Berlanti, in 2014. The couple welcomed their son Caleb, who was born via surrogate, to the world in February last year.

Berlanti, 44,  also shared the happy news to his Instagram followers, writing: “2016 was memorable for many reasons, for me as the year my heart doubled in size. First, when my son Caleb was born. And second, a few days ago, when I got engaged to my soulmate.

“Though I dreamed of both those things happening, I’m not sure I truly believed they were possible. Thanks to the friends and family who helped me to find my way to this moment in my blessed life. A happy and healthy 2017 to all.”

Rogers took a vocal stance against all forms of discrimination in 2016. In May, he accused FIFA of being run by “old, racist, sexist, homophobic dudes,” while in August he hit out after being subjected to homophobic abuse during a football match.

The sports star also recently made a cameo appearance alongside follow out sportsman Gus Kenworthy in American comedy The Real O’Neals, in which he helped convince gay character Kenny (played by Noah Galvin) to try out for his high school wrestling team.
