RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE PLOUGH
RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE PLOUGH

The Plough Bar and Grill is an Anglo American bar and kitchen, unique in its style, setting and serving. I felt like I was walking into a lush ski cabin and was wishing it was snowing outside to complete the winter feel. Its mezze-style dishes are a grazers dream: you don’t have to settle for one dish, but rather eat until your heart’s content. If you like to stimulate your taste buds then try one of their sliders, miniature mains or sharing dishes. Or, if you just want to sit back and enjoy a hot chocolate on a cold winters morning or cool beer on a summer’s day then The Plough has an impressive range of drinks from cask ales, spirits, craft beers and sparklers. The distinctive quality of the Plough is its ultra relaxed atmosphere, which takes you away from the bustling city of London.

Head chef Josh Garner leads his team from the open plan kitchen located in full view of diners. He is not only a fantastic chef, bringing New York style kitchen to Clapham but he is also a great advocate for his restaurant. He speaks to his clients regarding his food and spoke about his cheffing experience in Florida and how he lived in Amsterdam for ten years, giving him great culinary knowledge and range. His passion for food is most definitely stirred in to his distinctive dishes. The food mirrors its relaxed surroundings, each dish is just enough to satisfy your desire and then a new plate to add a new delight to the experience. I started and ended with a range of dishes, from ‘London banger Mini Dog and Buttered Shallots’, the shallots were cooked to utter perfection and literally melted in your mouth, keeping you wanting more. The next dish was the ‘West Country slow Pulled Pork Slider’, if you are a fan of pork then this is one to test, the strips of pork were delightful, its moist belly was cooked to precision, not too chewy, just right. Next on the list was popcorn shrimp, which was a burst of delight in my mouth, although I am not a fan of salsa it did compliment the crisply shrimp with its tangy taste. I ended my mezze style course with my favourite of the 4 dishes, which was the ‘Crab Salad’, if you like fresh and light then this is the dish, the sweet crab counterbalanced with chilli and lime was a perfect mix of flavours, leaving you content but fulfilled. If you want to have a fun yet appetizing meal – not over indulgent portions of the same dish but smaller portions of flavoursome food then this is the place to come..

The Plough Bar is definitely one to try out, be it for their famous and large selection brunch, a nice shared meal deal or a relaxing drink. This Clapham style bar brings New York to London with a twist of mezze style fun and if you like a non-pretentious but stylish meal and drink out then this definitely on the recommend list.
