Dermalogica has come up with a solution to that age old
skincare problem: can an exfoliant be strong enough to make a difference to
your skin but also so gentle that it can be used every day?
Dermalogica’s Daily
Microfoliant® (£38.50) is a truly unique, rice-based enzyme powder which
micro-exfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves the skin noticeably
smoother and brighter.
Could you be
over-exfoliating?
Tell-tale signs of over-exfoliated skin include noticeable
dehydration and patchy areas of dryness; skin tautness, itchiness, irritation
or breakout; a transparent-looking epidermis or redness and dilated
capillaries.
The microfoliant powder
formula activates upon contact with water, releasing papain, salicylic acid and
rice actives to smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewal. The process has
been named ‘microfoliation’ because of its unique combination of enzyme,
hydroxy acid and physical exfoliants which deliver immediate smoothing on a
microscopic level via non-invasive chemical and mechanical means.
The unique skin
brightening complex of bearberry, aspergillus, grapefruit and liquorice helps
to balance uneven skin pigmentation.
Melanin production is regulated by active agents derived from rice bran
and rice extracts which also micro-exfoliate dead cells. A super-soothing blend
of green tea, ginkgo and collodial oatmeal calms inflammation, leaving skin
extraordinarily clear and refreshed.
For thousand of years,
Japanese women known as ‘Nuka-Bijn’ (Bran Beauty) have rubbed rice bran on
their faces to soften and smooth their skin. Rice farmers also used the water left over from washing the
rice for bathing, to maintain their luminous skin.
Dermalogica has harnessed
the rice actives as a key ingredient in its Daily Microfoliant®. Rice bran contains up to 10% of phytic acid
which binds calcium ions, helping to loosen the cohesion of dead, dull skin
cells to the skin’s surface. It also helps to control those menacing brown age
spots. The enzyme inhibitors, proanthocyanidins help protect the skin’s
collagen and elastin to ensure suppleness and resilience, while the tocopherols
and tocotrienolsb (both vitamin E derivatives) help protect the skin from
environmental assault and reduce the progress of premature ageing.
