Ryan Murphy has revealed that he’s still working on two possible themes for season 6 of American Horror Story – and that the entire cast of Hotel can return if they so desire.
During a panel press conference with several cast members at PaleyFest, Murphy said: “I will tell you that every darling person up here that wants to come back can come back.” The cast members he was referring to include Angela Basset, Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Sarah Paulson Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson and Finn Wittrock, who’ll all be returning for the latest outing of the horror anthology series.
Lady Gaga has already confirmed that she’s returning for the next season, after her Golden Globe winning performance as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel. She joined the anthology series as long time lead actress Jessica Lange left the project, but the majority of the other actors named have been involved in every season, always taking the role of different characters.
The first five seasons of the series have followed horror stories centred around a murder house, an asylum, a coven, a freak show and a hotel, jumping between time periods across various American locations.
Asked about what the theme for the show would be, Murphy said: “I think the show has always felt to me like an opera, so I think both of the things we’re writing right now will have a certain feel.”
He added: “But, I think I know what the winner is.”
Ryan Murphy also premiered his new show this year, American Crime Story: The People v OJ Simpson, which is based on the infamous 1995 murder trial of the US sporting hero. American Crime Story will follow the same path as American Horror Story, with a different story explored in each season. Sarah Paulson is the only lead actor to appear in both shows so far.
