The 90's hit show The Crystal Maze returns to our screens on Channel 4. Hosted by the new Maze Master Richard Ayoade, this 20-episode series will be raising awareness and money for Stand Up To Cancer.
International menswear designer Simon Carter has taken the job to design the costumes for the celebrities taking part in the challenges. The contestants all wear a newly designed unisex jumpsuit inspired by Le Mans racing jumpsuits. With an off-white colour, double stripes and the iconic Crystal Maze logo embroidered on the back, these pieces will become the new uniform for the big names willing to take on the Crystal Maze.
Carter says, “I took my inspiration from my love of 1950s Le Mans car races for the jumpsuits and added a modern twist to make them distinctive and recognisable.” His pieces are all British-made fabrics and created in a traditional factory based in East London.
As well as designing the contestant’s outfits, Carter has also designed the looks for Richard Ayoade who has worked with Carte many time before, wearing his shirts on various TV shows. With strong coloured cord suits, floral shirts and knitted silk ties, Carter describes Ayoade’s costume as “geography teacher with a splash of colour”.
