The suspect, who cannot be named due to his age, discovered Sanchez's body during the ensuing search effort.

"This is somebody who obviously planned this, who tried to plan it well," said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Lt. John Corina. "And who then tried to throw everybody off."

School authorities described Sanchez as "a happy, funny and lighthearted student who had a passion for sports, having played on the football, baseball, and wrestling teams."

However, friend Ashley Lara told Fox 11 that the murdered student had suffered abuse from classmates because of his sexuality.

"He stopped wrestling and being a football athlete because of this bullying," she said. “He might have been bisexual and he got bullied because of that. So that made him quit sports."

A Crowdfunder has been set up to help Sanchez's family cover funeral costs.
