Amir Khan has apologised for calling Caitlyn Jenner "Bruce".

The 31-year-old boxer sparked criticism on social media this week after calling Caitlyn Jenner "Bruce" in a Snapchat post of himself and Jenner at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles.

Khan was slammed on social media and accused of transphobia. One Twitter user who spotted the error, tweeted: "Amir Khan is not funny for calling Caitlyn Jenner Bruce he demonstrates what a transphobic c**t he is."

However, Khan has now issued an apology. He wrote on Twitter: "I made a genuine mistake at the #ESPYS.

"Calling @Caitlyn_Jenner Bruce was in regards to their sports image, as an Olympian. It's been brought to my attention that it was wrong regardless. Therefore I would like to apologise to the transgender community."

During the ESPY Awards, Khan also shared an Instagram video of him high-fiving the reality star and tagging her correct name.
