Emerging pop superstar Ariana Grande has revealed that many of her friends are gay or transgender.
The 21-year-old from Florida, the break-out popstar of 2014, talks extensively about her new album
My Everything, her gay half-brother, Frankie, and her rather surprising darker side in the latest issue of
Attitude.
"I think I’ve been raised in a very fun, celebratory, democratic way," the singer says. "My brother is like my other half, I love him so much. When we were growing up, he was always doing musical theatre and I was always surrounded by his gay friends, so most of my best friends are gay or transgender or some beautiful kind of fun."

Grande, who topped the UK's Official Singles Chart earlier this summer with
Problem, continues: "I don’t know what it is but it seems like the gays are a lot more pleasant and more individual than most people. Straight people are very boring sometimes - it makes me want to shoot them. Not all straight people! But a lot of straight people maybe need to loosen up a little."
Meanwhile, grande recently defended her brother, Frankie, against a homophobic slur on Instagram -
