Bobsledder Simon Dunn: 'I'll only marry when it's legal in Australia'

2015-07-14
To look at pictures of gorgeous Aussie bobsledder Simon Dunn, you’d think he’d have no trouble finding love - but the handsome 27-year-old sportsman says finding a meaningful relationship been rather elusive of late. However, he says that one day he would like to settle down with a good man and start a family – but only once the Australian government legalises same-sex marriage. 11357524_1652602774880088_801288048_n ‘I am working so hard training so that I can make it to the 2018 winter Olympics,’ he says, "but one day I would like to meet the right guy, settle down and have kids. But I will only do this when I can get married in front of friends and family in my home country. If I can represent that country in sport I should be able to marry the person I love. I can’t believe that now the US has passed same-sex marriage, my country still hasn’t caught up with the rest of the world, which makes me angry. The law needs to be changed as soon as possible, otherwise we’ll look as bad as other countries who treat gay people like second class citizens." 11373505_472742102885049_1161342368_n Since uprooting from Australia to Calgary, Simon, who has just launched his own YouTube channel and recently posed for Attitude's 2015 Naked Issue, has been so hard training for the bobsleigh team that he hasn’t had any time for romance. "It’s hard to meet guys, because there isn’t a big gay scene in Calgary and I’m training so much. And when I’m not training, I'm working at a gym so that I can earn money. Once I get the Olympics out of the way, my next challenge would be to find a boyfriend and settle down. It can get lonely being in bed on your own!" 11335163_119295848407775_509505091_n Simon tells us he had his heart broken when he and a boyfriend of three years were forced to split due to career opportunities. "We lived together, but to be honest the scene came in between us and we broke up for about a year. In that time I joined the Convicts [a gay rugby team in Sydney]. We ended up getting back together. We didn’t argue, but then he was offered a dancing job at The Moulin Rouge in Paris. I didn’t want to be that boyfriend that stopped him chasing his dreams so I let him go. It was so tough but we now have grown even more. He’s still in Paris and I’m in Canada. You can’t love someone and then stop them being who they want to be!’ 11371953_687560058011521_981306024_n Awwww... Simon, we’re sure there are many men out there who’d love to make sure you don’t wake up on your own.
