The son of Cher and Sonny Bono appeared in 2011 film Becoming Chaz, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and later aired on Oprah Winfrey's television network. During an interview on RuPaul's Drag Race, Chaz explained that it felt "important" to him to share his experience with people. He said: "You know, there was a number of years where I knew I was transgender but was afraid to do anything about it. And so it was kind of important for me to kind of give that back. I figured there’s other people out there like me who are stuck." Chaz first came out as a lesbian in a 1995 cover story for The Advocate, before confirming his gender transition in July 2009. > Wendy Williams: ‘I bet Chaz Bono still fights like a girl’ > Cher hits back at critic who mocks ‘Dressed to Kill’ show > Cher on Putin: ‘He’s always shirtless – very Village People’
