Conchita Wurst has won the Moment of the Year prize at the Attitude Awards 2014.
The Austrian drag queen, famed for her distinctive bearded look, won the prize for her landmark victory at the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark in May of this year.
Wurst – real name Tom Neuwirth – won the annual singing competition with Rise Like a Phoenix
, in a moment that was heralded as a sign of international solidarity for the LGBT community.
The 25-year-old accepted her award from much-loved celebrity chef Nigella Lawson at tonight’s Attitude Awards ceremony at Banqueting House in Whitehall, London, hosted by Scissor Sisters star Ana Matronic.
