Bethenny Frankel could be replaced by a gay man in Real Housewives of New York.

Frankel became a fan favourite of the hit show – which was created by former Attitude cover star Andy Cohen – and news that she was not returning for the next season left fans devastated.

But now, according to Radar Online, claim that the show could be becoming more inclusive and feature, for the first time in the franchise’s history, an openly gay main cast member.

According to the site, the show’s producers said they are ‘always looking to tinker with the formula to make sure the show doesn’t get stale’.

A source added: “Over a decade ago, the show was focused on casting married ladies with children, [and] there was outrage when Bethenny Frankel, a single lady without a child was cast.

“Now most of the women are not even housewives!”

The unnamed source then teased that it’s unclear whether the new cast member will be a ‘gay man who runs the home while his husband brings home the bacon, or if they go with a straight stay-at-home fella, whose wife is the bread winner’.
