Demi Lovato has come out publicly as non-binary.
The 'Skyscraper' singer, 28, shared a video on Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday (19 May) in which they open up about coming to terms with their gender identity.
Lovato, who also came out as pansexual earlier this year ahead of the release of their seventh studio album Dancing with the Devil ... the Art of Starting Over, confirmed that they will use 'they/them' pronouns moving forward.
"I want to take this momont to share something very personal with you", Lovato says. "Over the past year and a half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work.
"And through this work I've had the revelation that I identify as non-binary."
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) May 19, 2021
The singer and former Disney star, goes on: "With that said, I'll be officially changing my pronouns to 'they'/'them'. I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and still am discovering.
"I want to make it clear that I'm still learning and coming into myself, and I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson."
Non-binary is used to describe people who feel their gender cannot be defined within the margins of gender binary.
In a separate tweet, Lovato revealed they had chosen to come out publicly as non-binary in honour of those who are unable to do the same.
"I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones", they wrote.
"Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox."
As part of their coming announcement, Lovato has spoken to non-binary writer and artist Alok Vaid-Menon for the singer's new podcast 4D with Demi Lovato.
