2016-06-13
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has come under fire for congratulating himself for "being right on radical Islamic terrorism" after the events of the Orlando shooting which left at least 50 dead and a further 53 injured. The attack was carried out by Omar Mateen at Pulse club in Orlando during the early hours of Sunday (June 12). Taking to Twitter, Trump wrote: "Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!" The post came just minutes after police announced the death toll, the Metro reports. After Barack Obama had issued a statement on the shooting, Trump said: "Is President Obama going to finally mention the words radical Islamic terrorism? If he doesn't he should immediately resign in disgrace!" He also warned that what happened in Orlando is "just the beginning".
