Electroshock ‘gay cure’ therapy still prominent in Chinese hospitals
A new Channel 4 documentary has revealed that illegal ‘gay cure’ therapies are still being offered in local Chinese hospitals.
Hidden camera footage shot for Channel 4's Unreported World shows two activists pretending to be potential 'customers' and having consultations with doctors; saying they want to be cured of homosexuality.
Although there is absolutely no substantial scientific evidence that these treatments work, they are given advice such as taking cold showers and excessively exercising.
A doctor also said shock therapy with an electric rod would help.

A Beijing court ruled in 2014 that treatments of this nature are illegal. The country only stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental illness in 2001.
