Elliot Page to divorce wife of three years Emma Portner

"We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends" say the pair

Elliot Page and Emma Portner have announced they are to divorce.

Juno star Elliot and choreographer Emma, who tied the knot three years ago, put out a joint statement yesterday.

In it, they also confirmed they separated last summer. 

"We have the utmost respect for each other"

"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer," they wrote (as per The Hollywood Reporter).

"We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."

Elliot and Emma married on 3 January 2018.

Oscar-nominee Elliot announced his marrige to Emma in a post on Instagram that month, saying: "Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife."

The star once again took to Instagram to come out as transgender and nonbinary last month.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot," he said at the time. "I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life."
