Gay Polish couple sent death threats after coming out with lipsync video
In August we reported that a Polish TV presenter had come out with a lipsync video that featured his boyfriend.
Jacob Hajduk is a TV journalist and has been with his partner David for seven years. They shot the lipsync video in July which featured music by Roxette and shared it on social media last month.
Roxette praised the video which has now been viewed over 200,000 times but when Polish media reported on the video, the couple started to receive death threats.
People have threatened to cut their throats and pour acid on them. Speaking to Gay Star News about the threats, Hajduk said:
"One day I came home, I saw David crying. We've been together for seven years and I've never seen him devastated like that day. His mum reads the comments and she calls us every day checking if anything bad has happened."
"It's not homophobia - it's homo aggression."
They considered taking the video down, but Hajduk ultimately decided not to because it'll be a "step backwards".
He said, "We thought if we took down the video, we would have let them win. So we decided to not give up and to spread our story all around."
"It's not easy, but this situation shows us it is not just a funny video. It showed how much still needs to be done to let gay people in Poland feel safe and proud of their sexuality and who they are."
