J J Abrams teases there will be LGBTQ representation in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.

Since the new trilogy started, fans have been calling for Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega) to be romantically involved.

However, Variety have recently reported that the two characters – despite having a close bond – will only have a platonic relationship.

But now, Abrams – who directed The Force Awakens and is back in the director’s chair for the final instalment of the Skywalker saga – has teased there will be some LGBTQ representation in the upcoming film.

Speaking at the press junket this week, Abrams opened up about Finn and Poe’s relationship and said: “That relationship to me is a far deeper one than a romantic one.

“It is a deep bond that these two have, not just because of the trial by fire in which they met, but also because of their willingness to be as intimate as they are, as afraid as they, as unsure as they are, and still be bold, and still be daring and brave.

“And in the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film.

“I will say I’m giving away nothing about what happens in the movie. But I did just say what I just said.”

The Rise of Skywalker is set to hit cinemas this month and will see the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Princess Leia - played by the late great Carrie Fisher - as well as Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.
