James Van Der Beek joins cast of new 'CSI' spinoff series

The brand new series is inspired by the work of real-life cyber psychologist Mary Aiken, and follows the FBI's Cyber Crime Division as it hunts down foreign and domestic threats that live online, reports TVLine. Van Der Beek, 37, will play an FBI agent called Elijah Mundo, an expert in forensics recruited by Special Agent Avery Ryan, played by Patricia Arquette. Mundo is an expert in weaponry, vehicles and bombs, apparently, while Ryan is known for her expertise in psychology. “We are excited to welcome an actor of James Ver Der Beek’s calibre to CSI: Cyber. Over his career, he has demonstrated a tremendous range of talent that makes him a perfect addition to our gifted cast,” said the show's executive producers in a press release. The actor, best known for his role as Dawson on iconic US teen drama Dawson's Creek, has recently been seen in now-cancelled US sitcoms Friends with Better Lives and The Bitch In Apartment 23Check Out Van Der Beek shirtless in an episode of The Bitch in Apartment 23 here.
