Mariah was presented with the award in New York by Empire co-creator Lee Daniels at the media charity's star-studded awards ceremony on Saturday night, calling the We Belong Together singer "one of us." When accepting the award, Mariah said she felt a sense of nervousness at the thought of having to learn "a whole new alphabet to introduce and not un-include people" She then ran through how she thought of the LGBT acronym in her own mind - and it was exactly what you'd expect from the iconic diva. "So we have 'L': legendary. 'G': gorgeous. 'B': beautiful - all of you beautiful people! 'T': tantalizing. And even 'Q' for quality!" She added: "Thank you for the unconditional love... I haven't experienced much of it." The award show was presented by Orange is the New Black's Laverne Cox, while the night also saw Jennifer Lawrence presenting Robert De Niro with the Excellence in Media Award. Former Glee star Alex Newell also honoured Mariah Carey with a rendition of Hero on the night.
