Married At First Sight UK has introduced its first-ever same-sex couple – while making a meal of “confronting” the gay grooms with a surprise age gap.

Memo to Channel 4 – 12 years is nothing!

The show’s premise involves a group of relationship experts matching complete strangers and introducing them on their wedding day.

The new series launched on E4 last night (30 August 2021); during a preview of next week’s episode, husbands-to-be Matt, 39, and Daniel, 27, are seen meeting for the first time.

“How old are you?”

“Two grooms are confronted with an age gap,” teases the narrator, before Matt addresses Daniel’s age directly.

The charity manager [above] then asks his partner: “How old are you?”

Well, it’s a natural question when you start a new relationship…

In other scenes from last night’s episode, salesperson Daniel [below] is heard saying: “It’s amazing to be one half of the first gay couple.

“Gay marriage has only been legalised very recently in Northern Ireland, which is absolutely shocking. And, now that I can share my relationship with the world, I find that so important.”

Best of luck to them!

Married At First Sight UK returns on Tuesday at 9pm on E4.
