MP Angela Eagle suffers 'torrents' of homophobic abuse online

Police are investigating a huge influx of online abuse targeted at gay MP and Labour leadership hopeful Angela Eagle, according to a report in the Evening Standard online. The abuse, some of which has been homophobic in nature, comes after a brick was thrown through Ms Eagle's office window. When asked if she had received death threats on BBC news today (July 15), the MP for Wallasay said “I’m told I have had death threats and the police are looking into it.” Some of the online abuse targeted at Eagle, who launched her bid to oust Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader last week, was read out on TV, including a tweet that called her a "treacherous lesbian". Ms Eagle has joined calls to keep politics "comradely" on Twitter.
