Conservative MP Nadine Dorries is 'self-isolating' after becoming the first MP to test positive for coronavirus.

The health minister confirmed to The Times that she had been diagnosed with the virus after first showing symptoms on Friday (6 March).

It is unknown how Dorries contracted the illness, but in the last week she has attended parliament, the Department of Health and Social Care, and a Downing Street event hosted by prime minister Boris Johnson.

In a statement, Dorries said she had taken "all the advised precautions" following her diagnosis.

She added: "Public Health England has started detailed contact tracing and the department and my parliamentary office are closely following their advice."

The news comes after the death of a sixth person with coronavirus in the UK on Tuesday (10 March), as the number of national cases rises to 382.
