The iconic “Sparkling Diamond” herself, Nicole Kidman, has shared a series of pictures of herself with her Moulin Rouge co-star, Ewan McGregor, to mark 20 years since the beloved musical film was first released.

Images shared on Instagram by Kidman on Tuesday (1 June) show the pair embracing in costume as well as posing for press shoots at the time. The Australian actress also shared a video of herself looking at fan art depicting her as Satine and McGregor as Christian.

The images were captioned “Some of my favorite memories from #MoulinRouge!” before repeating one of the movie's most memorable lines: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return”.

'Come What May’, we’re always going to love this movie and this pairing!

“What a gift”

In her caption, Kidman thanked fans for the love they had shown the movie since it premiered in 2001.

“To be reminded just how beloved this film is by so many of you is so deeply touching to me. When we were making this film, we hoped it would be something special and groundbreaking, but it’s far exceeded what I dreamed of.

“Thank you Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Ewan McGregor and the entire cast & crew. What a gift. And to all of you, thank you for all the love over the years, and thank you for all your beautiful artwork”

Fellow Aussie Kylie Minogue - who also appears in Moulin Rouge as the Green Fairy - commented, “iconic” with several emoji hearts across the posts.

Kidman’s director in 2020's The Prom, Ryan Murphy, commented: “Two of my favorite people in one photo. Love you both! x o”

And it’s clear from the comments that fans are still in love with this movie as much as we are!

For the few people who have yet to see the Baz Luhrmann-directed film (what have you been doing all this time?!) the early noughties classic tells the story of Christian, a hopeless romantic writer, who moves to the bohemian streets of Paris to find love and adventure. There he meets the dazzling “Sparkling Diamond” Satine and the two embark on an epic love story for the ages.

Filled with popular songs such as 'Your Song', 'Come What May', and the unforgettable epic that is the 'Elephant Love Medley', this movie-musical also stars Jim Broadbent, John Leguizamo, and Richard Roxburgh.

It’s since been turned into a stage musical, which debuted on Broadway in 2019. The West End production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is now set for curtains in December, with previews starting 12 November.

Don’t mind us, we’re going to go watch the film on repeat! Here’s ‘Your Song’ just to give you all the feels.
