'Pride' cast to appear at Manchester Pride Fringe

Screen Shot 2014-07-29 at 10.37.28Former Emmerdale star Joe Gilgun is set to appear at Manchester Pride Fringe to celebrate the launch of new British film Pride. Members of the cast and production team will take part in a public Q&A on Friday August 22 to discuss the film's historical significance, before marching in the Pride parade the following day (August 23). A second discussion will be held directly before the parade at the Peoples' History Museum, featuring both the cast and some of the real-life LGBT activists who inspired the film. Pride tells the true story of the unlikely alliance forged between a group of London-based gay activists and a small Welsh mining community during the height of the 1984-85 miners' strike. Staunton and Nighy star as Hefina and Cliff, two members of the Welsh mining community who welcome the LGBT group into their town in the face of local tension. Attitude's Andrew Fraser recently described the film - which won the Queer Palm Award at this year's Cannes Film festival - as "the best British movie in a decade" - read his full review here. Manchester Pride Fringe is a month-long celebration of LGBT culture, featuring art, theatre, music and film across the Greater Manchester area. Manchester Pride's Big Weekend takes place on summer bank holiday weekend (Aug 22-25) and will see performances from the likes of All Saints, Anastacia, and Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst.
