A record number of children are being adopted by LGBT families in the UK.
According to a report released today (March 2) by the Department of Education
, over 480 children have been adopted by LGBT parents in the past year.
The number is the highest it's ever been since the introduction of the Adoption and Children Act in 2002, which granted LGBT families in the UK the legal right to adopt for the first time.
In response to the figures, Edward Timpson, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, has thanked LGBT adopters for their "selfless dedication" to caring for vulnerable children.
