Same-sex couple wins gold at Olympics

The first same-sex couple to take part in the Olympic games has won a gold for team GB too! Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh are part of the 19-person field hockey team. The are the first same-sex married couple to take part in the Olympics. They have been playing together for over 20 years and a couple for 8 of them. They got married three years ago after winning a bronze medal in the London games in 2012. Kate told Gay Star News: ‘But we just clicked and developed a deep emotional connection. We have similar values and morals, even though we’re opposite in lots of other ways.’ They made history for the second time in these games on Friday (19th) by winning a gold medal beating the Netherlands 2-0.
