Elton-John-Suit-HD-WallpaperSir Elton John has claimed that Jesus would support gay rights if he was alive today. The Candle in the Wind singer said that he cannot see Jesus opposing gay marriage, as he stood for "love and compassion". Speaking to Sky News at Pride in London over the weekend, he said: "If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. "[Jesus] was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together. That is what the Church should be about." He went on to add that Pope Francis has done "wonderful" work since becoming the leader of the Catholic Church in March 2013. Last month, Sir Elton said that he hopes HBO’s adaptation of The Normal Heart will provoke greater action to combat the global AIDS crisis. > Elton John and David Furnish reveal plans to marry > Anastacia on Elton John friendship: ‘He’s my fairy godfather’
