It looks like K-Stew's pulled it out the bag.

Kristen Stewart showcases a cut-glass British accent in the first trailer for her upcoming Princess Diana biopic, Spencer.

The clip, released yesterday, shows the 31-year-old Twilight actress in a range of show-stopping outfits and pulling a range of intense facial expressions. (This is K-Stew we’re talking about, and we love her for it.)

Stewart stars Spencer, out this November, alongside Sally Hawkins and Jack Farthing. The film focuses on three days in the life of the late Royal, over which time she decides to end her marriage to Prince Charles.

“They don’t”

We only hear Kristen utter two words in the footage – “they don’t” – but she sounds so utterly unlike herself, it’s clear she’s not messing around. We’re into it.

The movie is directed by Pablo Larraín, who also helmed the successful Jackie Kennedy biopic Jackie in 2016.

Larraín has previously told Deadline of Spencer: “It’s very contained. They spent Christmas there for many years and that’s where we set the movie in the early 90s, around 1992, we’re not specific. It’s Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day… We get to understand what it is she wants and what she will do.”

He added of Kristen, last seen in the queer Christmas comedy Happiest Season: “We’re very happy to have her, she’s very committed. As a filmmaker, when you have someone who can hold such a weight, dramatic and narrative weight just with her eyes, then you have the strong lead who can deliver what we are looking for.”

Spencer premieres at the Venice Film Festival on 3 September 2021.

Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997. She was 36. An ill-fated biopic of her life starring Naomi Watts was released in 2011. A critical and commercial failure, it boasts a dismal 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
