A court in St Petersburg has ordered two LGBTQ groups to be disbanded for posting information on Russia’s largest social media network.

Under Putin’s anti-gay propaganda law, people cannot post anything online or promote LGBTQ rights or issues and now, two groups have been ordered to disband after posting information for the community of the social network site, VKontakte.

On Thursday (October 3), the Oktyabrsky District Court found that the Russian LGBTQ Network and the Russian LGBTQ Community groups ‘deny family values, propagate non-traditional sexual relations and cause disrespect to parents and other family members’, the Moscow Times reported.

Alexander Belick, a lawyer for the Russian LGBT Network, said the group would appeal to the St. Petersburg City Court and said: “Our right to freedom of information was violated.”
