As part of Strictly’s first-ever male same-sex pairing, we were already eagerly anticipating John Whaite’s appearance the BBC ballroom competition – but we’re feeling even more grateful for the former Great British Bake Off winner’s participation after the TV chef decided to give fans an, erm, intimate look at his preparation for the show.

Whaite – whose professional partner for the series is yet to be confirmed – took to Instagram earlier this week to share the moment he got his infamous Strictly spray tan ahead of the show’s return to screens this Saturday 18 September.

Donning nothing but a tiny Calvin Klein thong, the 32-year-old posted a cheeky Boomerang of himself pulling down the waistband to show off his new shade.

The eye-popping post certainly captured the attention of friends and fans, with Drag Race star Miss Fame commenting beneath with three ‘fire emojis’.

“I came prepared and brought my own thong for the strictly spray tan…” wrote Whaite in the caption. “Nat and Marie made this boy feel at home while they scrubbed me and sprayed me in the shade of Venetian Plus.”

John’s CK thong isn’t the only Strictly gear the star has been showing off on Instagram – the also recently admitted to finally feeling like “a real dancer” after pairing some lycra shorts with an oversized jumper.

Whaite previously reflected on the importance of his pairing with a man on Striclty for LGBTQ represenation, telling Matt Lucas on BBC Radio 2: “When they asked me if I’d be interested, I just bit their hand off because I thought, to do that and represent the LGBTQ+ community is one thing, but also just to see two men or two women dancing together, it’s not necessarily about sexuality, it’s just about intimacy and respect.

“And I think that’s going to be such a great thing in our culture, where men are sort of conditioned not to open up and not to be emotional. I think it might help to combat that.

“So I’m excited on so many levels to be doing the first all-male partnership.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to screens this Saturday 18 September on BBC One.
