Instant Dads, a classic movie depicting an LGBTQ+ family is getting a re-release to celebrate its 15-year anniversary.
The moving indie flick, written and directed by Derek Maki, was a two-time winner of 'Best Film' awards on the festival circuit upon release.
The plot of Instant Dads involves Nancy, a mother dying of cancer, who must find a loving home for her son Luke.
She decides to contact Luke’s biological father, Steven, who has no idea he has a son and is now in a committed relationship with his boyfriend, Peter.
Steven struggles with the news that he is not only a father but that his high school sweetheart is dying of cancer and his boyfriend is less than excited about the news of his past. What will Steven decide?
Dominic Janes, the 10-year-old actor who plays Luke, went on to appear in ER and Dexter.
The late director of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back Irvin Kershner, who was Derek's mentor, assisted with the film’s postproduction and Derek's overall vision.
For more information, visit the film's IMDB page or stream on Amazon. Otherwise, the film is available in two DVD formats: standard and special edition (the latter with collector's book, including letter from Maki, full shooting script with notations and never-before-seen photos).
Both versions come with additional video bonus material that includes deleted scenes, behind the scenes featurette, behind the music feature and a new welcome video from the director.
