Occupation: Data consultant

Dean (right)
Age: 30
Occupation: Singer/vocal coach

What were you hoping for from the date?

Dean: To have a fun evening, eat nice food and meet someone like-minded who I could potentially see again.

Charlie: A chill evening getting to know a handsome boy.

What were your first impressions?

D: He was handsome and incredibly well-spoken.

C: I was just relieved he wasn’t a hideous weirdo!

Was he different to your usual type?

D: He is the type of guy that I would usually go for: cute, nice smile, clean shaven, career-driven and grounded.

C: I tend to prefer more athletic-looking guys, but the fact he was a bit different made him more interesting conversation-wise.

Would you have swiped left or right?

D: Right.

C: Right, as long as his profile picture wasn’t an unsmiling head shot.

What did you talk about?

D: I talked too much! We spoke about careers, and he seemed interested in mine in theatre and music. I’m not sure what his involved, something in IT.

C: Dean is a chatty guy, which suits me fine because I’m more of a listener. He couldn’t stop saying how surprised he was that the date wasn’t a disaster.

What was the most interesting thing about him?

D: That he plays saxophone. I play the sax, too so that was cool.

C: I found his singing career fascinating although I was worried he’d break into song in the restaurant.

What was his best quality?

D: His manners.

C: His Lancashire accent and the way he laughed.

What did you make of his dress sense?

D: He came straight from work so looked smart-casual, which was good.

C: Thumbs-up for good hair and a trendy shirt.

Were there any deal-breakers?

D: He is just out of a relationship. I don’t think he is looking for anything more than a night out and a laugh.

C: Not that I can think of.

What do you think he thought of you?

D: That I was funny because he laughed in the right places but I sensed that I’m a bit old for him.

C: He was pretty complimentary so I felt he liked me.

What were you most worried he would notice about you?

D: I had a pint on the way for some Dutch courage and didn’t want him to know, but I ended up telling him.

C: Nothing really.

How was the food?

D: It was lovely, we even swapped some food. The wine was nice, but we drank too much.

C: Very good. Dean let me try his, which was cute.

Charlie and Dean dined at M Restaurant, Victoria Street, London

Any awkward moments?

D: The initial meet was awkward as we didn’t know what to say for about 15 seconds.

C: Dean dropped his phone, which bounced and knocked over my glass of red wine. It spilled all over the table and curtain next to us. Hilarious!

How did the night end?

D: We went to another bar, had a couple of drinks and a kiss. We exchanged numbers then went our separate ways.

C: We had another couple of drinks, then went home — separately.

What would you have changed about the night?

D: Going to the bar afterwards. I was so drunk by the end of the night that the last part is a little hazy.

C: That second bottle of wine.

Snog, marry, avoid?

D: Snog.

C: Snog.

Will you meet again?

D: Who knows?

C: We had a fun night but the attraction wasn’t there for me.

Rate the date!

D: 7/10

C: 7.5/10
