Kayne West has stirred up more trouble with Taylor Swift, after allegedly referring to the 1989 singer as a “bitch” in his new single ‘Famous’, and without her permission to do so.
The track features on his new album The Life of Pablo, where West makes a coy swipe at Swift, singing, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that bitch famous," reports The Guardian.
The line is a reference to West famously hijacking Swift’s acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards in 2009.
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you finish,” he said at the time. “But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time, one of the best videos of all time.”
At last year’s VMA’s, the pair appeared to bury the hatchet, and according to TMZ, West had contacted Swift last month for her approval on the inflammatory lyric, which she was said to have granted.
But after unveiling the track in New York at Madison Square Garden this week, it has since emerged Swift never gave her permission, with the 38-year-old American rapper and singer instead phoning Swift to ask her to share ‘Famous’ across her social media channels.
“Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” wrote a spokesperson.
“She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous’.”
Swift’s squad of family and famous friends been quick to defend that star, with her brother Austin posting an Instagram video that shows him throwing away his Yeezy shoes.
Selena Gomez, Martha Hunt and Calvin Harris were among the stars to either like or comment on the video.
“Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again,” writes Austin.
