One of the contestants on this year’s series of The Apprentice, Amy Anzel, has apologised after using a homophobic slur on her social media over the weekend.

Anzel, who considers herself as “the queen of the gays and crabs” was out exploring Manchester’s Canal Street on Saturday 29 January and asked her fans on Twitter “Where’s good to go out?”

While sharing images of herself with people in the area, she wrote that she was being “mobbed by homo’s [sic]” in a now-deleted post.

“I really meant no malice”

On Sunday (30 January) Amy posted an apology after some backlash over her use of the slur. She said: “I just want to apologise to the people I’ve upset with a tweet I posted last night. As soon as it was pointed out, I took it down.

“It was taken from a conversation – and I was repeating what my friends were saying. I really meant no malice by it at all, it was meant with love.”

Previously Amy has tweeted her thanks to the LGBTQ community for their support adding, “I love you all so much!”

The entrepreneur, who works in the beauty industry, gained an LGBTQ following after the series debuted in January and describes herself as a “tough boss”.

She told the BBC, “I can be nice when I need to be, but when I unfortunately have to be a bitch, I will…”
