Watch Matt Lucas in trailer for hilarious new comedy series Pompidou

2015-02-24
BBC Two have given viewers a first look at the new comedy project for Little Britain star Matt Lucas - and it looks like a winner. Lucas's new show, Pompidou, airs from March 1, and it's something of a throwback - it's the first entirely wordless comedy series to screen in the UK since the days of Mr Bean, The Baldy Man and Bradley. Pic2 Lucas's inspirations go further back still -  inspired by the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati and Marty Feldman, he's said he'd love to reinvent silent comedy for the 21st century. Lucas plays the titular role of Pompidou, a penniless, eccentric aristocrat who gets into all sorts of surreal scrapes - alongside his loyal butler and his slightly creepy Afghan hound. The show was developed without the input of Lucas's Little Britain comedy partner David Walliams, but if the trailer's anything to go by, he's not lost any of his humour by striking out on his own. Our favourite moment? 27 seconds in, when poor Pompidou gets rather - ahem - carried away while performing surgery on a patient (it's that sort of a show). Check out the trailer below, and watch Pompidou from 6:30pm this Sunday March 1 on BBC2:
