Ashanti claims police shut down gig after only a few people turn up

Oops. US R&B star Ashanti has been left red-faced after it’s emerged she lied about police closing down a show – when in fact it was cancelled because barely anyone turned up.
The 34-year-old – who scored five UK Top 20 hits between 2002 and 2004 – was booked to perform at Club Mixx in New York City last Friday (July 3), but the show was cancelled at the last minute, Idolator reports.
Taking to Instagram, Ashanti told fans that the police and the promoter had shut the gig down, writing: “Hey everyone unfortunately mixx lounge has been shut down by the promoter and the police.. So I will not be there…”
However, as the fan(s?) who did turn up expressed their disappointment, the club responded that they were in fact still open, and that the gig had been cancelled after failing to draw a big enough crowd.
Ashanti has since deleted the post, but that hasn’t stopped fans expressing their outrage at her initial dishonesty.
‘Awww baby’ indeed. Ashanti, honesty is always the best policy.
