Watch: ‘Next Top Model’ crowns first ever transgender winner

By Will Stroude

A trainee hairdresser has become the world’s first transgender Next Top Model winner after clinching victory on the Dutch edition of the show this week (October 26).

Loiza Lamers landed a 50,000 Euro contract with modelling agency Touche Models after the historic win, which saw the 20-year-old keep the fact she was transgender a secret from producers until after she had landed a place on the show.

“When I announced that I was born a boy, I knew I would face attention,” Loiza told She told Dutch news outlet AD. “Luckily I received nothing but nice and sweet reactions to my participation from people. And anyone who took offence just walked circles around me.”

Meanwhile, with the sad news that the original American version of the show will soon be packing away the runway for good, we recently rounded up 20 of the most brilliant and bonkers moments from its incredible 12-year run – click here to find out more.
