Disney to boycott Georgia if homophobic bill passes

Ant-Man,

 the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 were all filmed in Atlanta, Georgia by Marvel Studios- an arm of Disney, due to the state’s generous tax incentives. However, Disney has said that if The Free Exercise Protection Act passes, they will no longer use Georgia as a location for filming, regardless of tax incentives.

The measure, which has already been passed by Georgia lawmakers, would offer protections to faith-based entities that refuse to provide services that they say violate their beliefs.

The piece of law is currently sat on the desk of Gov. Nathan Deal, who has until May 3 to decide whether to veto it.

He could either decide to pass it or decide to do nothing, in which case it will come into law. If it does Disney, the world’s largest entertainment company, will pull all it’s business from the state causing them to lose out on billions of dollars, according to the LATimes.com.

So far, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures Entertainment have not said they would stop filming in the state if the Free Exercise Protection Act becomes law.

However a spokesperson for Disney has said, “Disney and Marvel are inclusive companies, and although we have had great experiences filming in Georgia, we will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law.”
