Giorgio Armani criticises gay men: ‘A man has to be a man’
By Josh Haggis
Giorgio Armani has suggested that a “man should be a man”.
The legendary designer shared his thoughts on gay men in a new interview, where he argued that gay men shouldn’t dress in a “homosexual” fashion.
“A homosexual man is a man 100%. He does not need to dress homosexual,” the designer told The Sunday Times Magazine. “When homosexuality is exhibited to the extreme – to say, ‘Ah, you know I’m homosexual,’ – that has nothing to do with me. A man has to be a man,” he added.
He also went on to criticise “muscle boys” who go to the gym too much: “I don’t like muscle boys. Not too much gym. I like somebody healthy, somebody solid, who looks after his body but doesn’t use his muscles too much.”
Armani’s comments come in the wake of controversial remarks from fellow designers Dolce & Gabanna, who were criticised by numerous celebrities for speaking out against same-sex families and IVF treatment.
