About

Launched in March 1994, Attitude is the best-selling gay magazine in the UK and Europe and the world’s biggest LGBTQ media brand. The print title is sold in 31 countries worldwide, and has been translated into native language in Belgium, the Netherlands, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. In digital form, the magazine is available to download to a phone, tablet or desktop and has readers in over 120 countries.

For more than 25 years, Attitude has garnered a reputation for major exclusives – it was the magazine to which George Michael gave his first interview as an out, gay man, the only to which Sir Elton John and David Furnish spoke about their then impending marriage and the first (and only) LGBTQ title ever to shoot and interview a member of the British Royal Family, making His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, a cover star back in 2016.

Our website at www.attitude.co.uk attracts as many as 1.7 million unique users a month, while across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube we have more than 1.2 million loyal, engaged social media followers.

The Attitude Awards are the biggest live event of their kind, held annually in London every October since 2012. Previous attendees have included everyone from the Duke of Sussex, Prince HarryKylie Minogue and Cher to Laverne CoxWhoopi Goldberg and Sam Smith.

The Attitude PRIDE Awards, meantime, have been presented since 2015 and laud those within the LGBTQ community who have triumphed over tragedy or who serve selflessly to make the world a safer, kinder and more accepting place.

Attitude Pride at Home is a nine-day, two-weekend digital festival launched for Pride month (June) in 2020. Pride at Home content, on Attitude’s platforms alone, received 25.9m impressions and reached 18.5m unique viewers. We posted more than 100 video assets during the festival that were viewed more than 745,000 times, with a total viewing time of more than 6,000 hours.

The Attitude Magazine Foundation is a registered charity (number 1180876) and, since founding in summer 2018, has raised and distributed more than £250,000 for LGBTQ causes large and small. Our foundation is the beneficiary of Attitude’s live events, be they physical or in digital form, and exists as our philanthropic CSR project, to give back to the community we are proud to be part of, and to represent. Fact-checking policy

Attitude’s writers and columnists are professional journalists conversant with publishing law and both they, and our sub-editing team, make every effort to confirm – prior to publication – the accuracy of facts or quotations used in any and every story. Our writers must be precise with their words, headlines and cited URLs. They understand that words have power and act responsibly. In doing so, they must verify the information they gather. This includes identifying information such as names and positions, but also includes factual statements and accounts. Our writers conduct their own fact-checking using their own judgment guided by our ethics policy. We will use fact checkers in circumstances we believe warrant doing so.

Ethics policy

Our ethics policy gives our employees and contributors guidelines on our business ethics and stance on various matters. They are trusted to use judgment, but we provide guidance to fall back on if anyone is unsure about how to act. This policy applies to everyone we employ or have business relations with. This includes individual people such as employees, interns and volunteers, but also business entities.

We base our business code of ethics on common principles of:

Corrections policy

All articles will have been fact-checked prior to publication by the author/sub-editor, which should ensure that content errors are not present. Nonetheless, for a variety of reasons some articles may need to be corrected after publication. Such reasons can range from minor typos and small errors through to more serious issues concerning ethics and copyright. We handle different kinds of errors in the following ways:
