Fans of Britney Spears have blasted those who leaked snippets of the upcoming remix the ‘Stronger’ singer has recorded with Sir Elton John.

‘Hold Me Closer’ was revealed to be the name of the remix earlier this month with no official word on the track’s release date.

However, as is often the case these days, snippets have been posted across the internet leading some fans to think the song had actually been released.

One person tweeted a gif of a confused-looking Britney.

Others took aim at those behind the leaks with one person labelling them “fake fans”. The person added they were “MAD” at the leakers and that “This is her first single as a free woman, why would you ruin the release for your own selfish reasons. You CAN wait a couple more days”

Another person wrote: “y’all can leak britney’s PREVIOUS music from like 12 years ago that got scrapped and that’s fine by me but y’all can’t be leaking her new music that she’s taking long for to perfect it for us. she’s so excited and it’s rude”.

Someone encouraged people to not listen to the leaks and to “just report and move along,” adding that “britney deserves a proper, successful rollout with her first piece of work post-conservatorship”

When reports of a collab between Britney and Sir Elton first appeared in July a source told Page Six: “This was Elton’s idea, and Britney is a huge fan. They have recorded a remix of ‘Tiny Dancer’ as a full duet — and it is incredible. They’ve already played it for people at their record label, and everybody is freaking out. It is so good. They are saying this is going to be the song of the summer.”

‘Hold Me Closer’ would be the first music Spears has released since her 2016 critically lauded album Glory as well as her first time releasing music after her 14-year conservatorship was terminated in November 2021.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
