A gay man requires surgery following a ‘homophobic’ attack by five bouncers at an LGBTQ nightclub in Manchester over the weekend which left him with numerous injuries.

Sharing images of himself after the attack on social media, Ronan Gordon says he was knocked unconscious in the incident, which he also says was unprovoked.

Posting on Instagram on Sunday (23 January) he said he was in the gay nightclub, Bloom, the previous evening when he was “targeted by 5 bouncers”.

“They was told to stop but carried on”

Detailing the injuries he was left with Ronan says, “I have a broken nose a shattered eye socket and have to have surgery, I’m full of cuts and bruises, I was knocked unconscious on the floor”.

He continues: “they was [sic] told to stop but carried on, I didn’t ever think I would go into my home town Manchester where I spend a lot of weekends enjoying myself to be beaten up by bouncers, in a well known gay bar.”

“If anybody has any information or video footage please can you send it to me,” he says adding, it took place between 4:30 and 6am.

In a statement on its Instagram page, Bloom says it’s aware and “deeply shocked” by what happened and that it’s “working directly with the police to resolve this.”

“We take allegations such as this very seriously. The welfare and safety of our customers is absolutely paramount and is always our main priority.”

The statement goes on to say that the security staff concerned have been suspended during the investigation. It closes by saying, “We strive to make Bloom Nightclub a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for all our LGBTQ+ family who visit us. We do not and won’t ever tolerate violence of any kind.”

Speaking about the incident to Out, Ronan says he was grabbed by the bouncers after coming out of the toilet before being hit and passing out. he also shared an image of a message he was sent by Bloom over social media which says Ronan was initially asked to leave after an “altercation with another male,” before he attacked a female member of staff.

The club told Ronan he attacked and injured another member of staff as he was removed from the site, and also spat blood at staff.

Ronan denies these claims. Out reports this message was late deleted before the club’s more official statement appeared.
