The first official promo picture of Jonathan Bailey for Cock has been released, as anticipation for the provocatively-titled West End drama continues to grow. (Tickets sre available here).

An image of Bridgerton star Bailey, 33, was shared on the production’s Instagram page on Monday (14 February), less than three weeks before opening night at London’s Ambassadors Theatre on Saturday 5 March.

The snap of former Attitude cover star Bailey was accompanied by the caption: “In a world full of endless possibilities why must we still limit ourselves with labels?”

The upcoming revival of Cock stars Bailey and Rocketman actor Egerton as a gay couple whose relationship is thrown into turmoil. The play co-stars Jade Anouka and Phil Daniels, whose own promo pics were released over the weekend.

An official promo image for Egerton was also shared later on Monday (14 February).

Written by Mike Bartlett, Cock originally debuted in 2009 at Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, with Fleabag‘s Andrew Scott and James Bond’s Ben Whishaw cast in Bailey and Egerton’s roles.

The latest production is directed by Marianne Elliott, who previously directed Bailey in an award-winning 2018 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical Company.

Bailey’s co-star Egerton also teased more of the show on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month, branding the show “very, very funny and actually very moving.”

“It’s the story of a young gay couple who have been together for a number of years,” Taron explained on the BBC One talk show.

“They end up taking a break… One of them sleeps with somebody else and it transpires that that person is a woman. And what happens is they all try to get together and have a chat about it.”

Bailey, 33, has previously declared that Cock was “ahead of its time” when it was first staged 13 years ago.

The actor, who is gay, told the Daily Mail last year that people are “nervous talking about sexual identity and this movement that’s happening at the moment, with opening the binary structure.”

Cock is at London’s Ambassadors Theatre Saturday 5 March – Saturday 4 June 2022. For tickets click here.
