Madonna has released a brand new version of ‘Frozen’ with Sickick and Fireboy DML.

The Queen of Pop is breathing new life into the haunting electronic ballad 25 years after its initial release with a new official remix by Canadian producer and musician Sickick, whose original remix of the track went viral on TikTok last year.

Capitalising on renewed interest in the song, Madonna promptly joined forces with Sickick and Nigerian singer Fireboy DML for a trap-infused version of ‘Frozen’ which was released on Thursday (3 March).

Madonna has been hyping up the track on Instagram in recent days and has teased that an official music video is “coming soon.”

‘Frozen’ was originally released in February 1998 as the lead single from Madonna’s seventh studio album Ray of Light.

Co-written with Patrick Leonard and producer by William Orbit, the track was widely acclaimed and topped the UK Singles Chart and peaked at Number Two on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In a retrospective to mark Ray of Light’s 20th anniversary in 2018, Matthew Barton wrote for Attitude that ‘Frozen’s “majestic, desolate string arrangement… recalls Björk’s 1997 LP Homogenic in its lush, romantic drama.”

He added: “Twenty years later it’s still a rush to recall how fresh, different, and unexpected this song was.”
