My Policeman, the upcoming drama about a same-sex love affair starring Harry Styles, has a new, first-look trailer – and the footage looks suitably swooning and dramatic.

In the film, set in 1950s Brighton, Harry plays the titular policeman, Tom Burgess. The Crown‘s Emma Corrin plays his partner Marion Taylor, a teacher while David Dawson plays museum curator Patrick Hazlewoodas, whom Tom has an affair with.

Amazon Studios will distribute My Policeman in US and UK theatres on 21 October 2022 and on Prime Video globally on 4 November 2022.

“You just have to let it take hold of you”

Tom and Patrick are first seen admiring a painting by the English painter J. M. W. Turner, with Patrick turning to Tom and asking: “How does it make you feel?”

In a voiceover, Tom can be heard reflecting on the power of love, saying: “You can sense the waves, you know how strong they are. Like swimming in rough surf.”

Patrick says: “You feel they could crush you. Or take you under. You just have to let it take hold of you.”

Later, they are seen moving in for a passionate embrace.

The film will feature a flash-forward to the 1990s, in which Linus Roache plays Tom, Gina McKee plays Marion, and Rupert Everett plays Patrick.

Today, Amazon Studios is also releasing the below poster of the film for the first time.

My Policeman is based on the book by Bethan Roberts, and directed by Michael Grandage. The As It Was singer and former One Direction star made his film debut in 2017’s film Dunkirk.

The Attitude July/August issue is out now.
