Pete Buttigieg and his partner Chasten have announced that they’ve become parents, and we’re so happy for them!
The US transportation secretary, 39, who is the first out gay cabinet member to run in a Presidential race, made the announcement on Tuesday (17 August)
The couple - who have adopted a child - are now arguably the most high-profile gay couple in the US to become parents.

“For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family," said Pete in a statement. "We’re overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents! The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us."
He added: “We can’t wait to share more soon.”
The pair were congratulated by many, especially many other gay couples sharing their joy at being parents, with one saying: “The joy is perpetual”.

Chasten Buttigieg spoke to the Washington Post in July about the adoption process, which he says was frustrating after getting a call that there was a baby available at short notice, only for the mother to change her mind shortly after.
“It’s a really weird cycle of anger and frustration and hope,” Chasten told the Post. “You think it’s finally happening and you get so excited, and then it’s gone.”
Pete was named Attitude's Person of the Year in 2020,
The Attitude September Style Issue, is out now.
