Phillip Schofield asked out live on air by Rev Richard Coles and trust us, he’s got the moves

"Drink? Dinner?" Classic.

By Jamie Tabberer

Phillip Schofield and Reverend Richard Coles could become the next gay celebrity power couple, after flirting up a storm on the radio over the weekend – but it sounds like Phil’s not up for it.

This Morning presenter Phil, who came out to the public in February, was speaking to Rev Richard on his Radio 4 show Saturday Morning Live when talk turned to dating.

And Strictly Come Dancing star Richard made a beeline straight for the star by pointing out their similarities.

“Broadcaster, gay, in his middle years…”

“If you’re looking for a bit of company Phillip? Broadcaster, gay, in his middle years, single, you know…” said the Rev.

“Drink? Dinner?”

These are textbook moves… but they’re so on the money.

“Are you asking me out?” was Phil’s response, at which point the pair descended into fits of giggles, with Shaun Keaveny, the show’s co-presenter, joking: “I feel like a bit of a gooseberry now…”

Although they’d clearly make a cute couple (we also can’t help but notice they’re the same age – 58!), this one’s perhaps not a goer.

Responding to a fan on Twitter today who asked “so did you get a date with Phillip?”, Richard said: “Not so much.”

Rev Rich, who appeared on the 2017 series of Strictly, is also known for his work as a musician in The Communards.

His civil partner David Oldham sadly died in December 2019 at the age of 45, of an underlying health condition that caused internal bleeding.
