It seems we’ll be getting a lot more of the ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ singer Ricky Martin on our screens soon with the announcement of his latest acting role.
Martin, 50, announced on Monday (23 May) that he is set to join the cast of Mrs. American Pie, a female-led 10-part period comedy based on the popular debut novel from Juliet McDaniel, Mr. and Mrs. American Pie.
The Grammy-winning Puerto Rican actor is slated to appear as Robert, making him the latest addition to the show’s cast that so far includes Kristen Wiig, Alison Janney, and Laura Dern, who has developed the series with producing partner Jayme Lemons.

According to the brief description released about Mrs. American Pie, the show is set in the early 1970s and revolves around Maxine Simmons (Wiig) attempting to secure herself a seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society.
The show marks a big role for Martin and his first acting project since his Emmy nominated turn in Ryan Murphy’s 2018 FX drama The Assassination of Gianni Versace, part of the American Crime Story anthology, in which Martin played Antonio D’Amico.
Deadline reports that Ricky is seeking stronger acting roles. This seems like the perfect opportunity!
Martin has previously spoken out about his “disappointing” lack of acting opportunities, questioning whether his sexuality is part of the reason. Martin came out as gay publically in 2010.
At the time, Martin stated: “I don’t know if I’m not getting parts because I’m gay. But if that’s the case, it’s really sad. I’m going to keep working until life is different.”
Alongside his latest acting work, Martin is also continuing his LGBTQ+ advocacy and will be performing in the South of France later this week at the American Foundation for Aids Research gala in Cannes alongside the likes of Christina Aguilera.
