Attitude Actor of the Year Award: Cyril Nri
The recipient of our Actor of the Year Award supported by Marriott, who made such a dynamic impact in TV’s Cucumber, thinks his sexuality is no big deal. But Cyril Nri will talk about it one more time. Just for us…
Nri starred as Lance, tragic victim of homophobia, in Cucumber, a TV drama that was the topic of much debate when it screened earlier this year. Nri is on record as saying it’s the best thing he’s ever done.
“It was, definitely,” he confirms, but adds with the modesty that dominates his personality, “if anyone’s to thank for any awards it’s [writer] Russell T. Davies, who’s just brilliant.”
It will have to be us who go on record to declare that Cyril Nri’s achingly humane performance contains a heart-stopping moment that was one of the most powerful on British TV.
Actor of the Year? No contest.
You can read our full, in-depth interview with Nri – alongside features on all our other winners of the Attitude Awards in association with Virgin Holidays – in the new issue of Attitude, available to download from attitudedigital.co.uk from 11pm tonight (October 14) and in shops tomorrow.
